How to adopt a Unifi over the network (L3 across subnets)

- You will need to know the IP of the Unifi device on the network.  You can find this using wireshark or some other scanning method.

- Log into the device using SSH.  The default username is ubnt and the default password is ubnt.

- Set the Unifi to defaults by typing:

syswrapper.sh restore-default

- The device will reboot and then come back online.

- Start your Unifi Controller software on whatever computer is the controller and note the IP of the computer you are using as the controller.

- Log back into the Unifi using SSH.

- To log into the mca client, type:

mca-cli

- Assuming your controller is at 10.1.10.217, type:

set-inform http://10.1.10.217:8080/inform

- It should show up in you Unifi controller.  Click on the Unifi when it shows up in your controller window, and click "Adopt."

- It should say "Adopting."

- Quickly go back to the SSH console on the Unifi and type the same inform command again (note that you need to do this within about 60 seconds of adopting or it will fail on the adoption and just show up again as needing to be adopted after you issue the command.):

set-inform http://10.1.10.217:8080/inform

- The adoption should then take place on the controller.
